Disability Parking in Missouri:
Everything You Need to Know

• Missouri Disability Parking Laws

  • Qualifying conditions include inability to walk 50 feet without stopping to rest due to severe arthritic, neurological or orthopedic condition, inability to walk without assistive device, respiratory disease, cardiac condition, or legal blindness.
  • A licensed physician, chiropractor, podiatrist, PA, APRN, physical therapist, or optometrist must certify your condition on Form 1776 (Physician's Statement).
  • Permanent placards are valid for 5 years (expire September 30th of the 4th year); temporary placards are valid for up to 180 days.
  • New physician statement required every 8 years for permanent placard renewals (unless exempt due to age or veteran status).
  • Temporary placards can be renewed once for up to 180 days with new forms.
  • Misuse of placard (parking without the disabled person present) is an infraction, fine $50-$300; fraudulent application or use is a Class A misdemeanor, fine up to $1,000 and/or imprisonment up to 1 year.
  • Placard must hang from rearview mirror when parked in designated space and removed when driving; validated receipt of Form 2769 must be in vehicle when placard is in use.
  • Placards are nontransferable.

• Documents You’ll Need

  To apply for, replace, or renew a Missouri disability parking placard, here's what you need:

  New Permanent or Temporary Placard

  To apply for a new disability parking placard in Missouri, you'll need:

  • Form 2769 (Application for Disabled Person Placard), completed and signed by you
  • Form 1776 (Physician's Statement for Disabled Person's Placard), completed by a licensed doctor (must be dated within 90 days of application)

  Veteran Exemption

  Disabled veterans qualify for an exemption from standard medical certification:

  • For initial application: Submit statement from U.S. Veterans Administration verifying permanent disability (replaces Form 1776)
  • For renewals: No physician statement required for disabled veterans

  Age 75+ Exemption

  Applicants 75 years of age or older:

  • For initial application: Form 1776 required
  • For renewals: No physician statement required

  Online Doctor's Certification

  If applying through a telehealth service like ParkingMD, you can get your evaluation done completely online. You'll receive:

  • A signed medical certification (Form 1776) delivered to you via email within 24-48 hours, ready for submission

  Lost or Stolen Placard Replacement

  If your placard is lost or stolen, you'll need to provide:

  • Notarized Form 2769 (Application for Disabled Person Placard)
  • Copy of your latest validated receipt for the original placard
  • If unable to provide receipt, may require new Form 1776

• Permanent Placards

  • Renewal notice mailed every 5 years to address on record.
  • New physician statement (Form 1776) required every 8 years (unless age 75+ or disabled veteran).

  Temporary Placards

  Replacing a Lost, Stolen, or Damaged Placard

  • Submit notarized Form 2769 and copy of validated receipt.
  • If unable to provide receipt, may require new Form 1776.

  Turnaround Time

  Applications submitted in person at any Missouri license office receive the placard immediately. Mail-in applications take approximately 2-3 weeks.
